About the Artist
Valeria Ann Watson, an African American artist and humanitarian born in 1948, has been creating art for over 60 years.
The creativity my grandmothers taught me as “women’s work,” including knitting, quilting, ironing, cleaning, and tailoring, was refined through the skills I later acquired in New York City as a costume designer on Broadway and as a men’s tailor in Hollywood.
